Nairobi County government has temporarily closed parts of Harambee Avenue to pave way for the construction of an underground tunnel for Members of Parliament.
The tunnel that is under construction will be connecting the National Assembly Chambers with the offices of the legislators at Continental House.
It is aimed at reducing movement of MPs and their motorcades as they try to access their offices at the Continental House.
Nairobi’s acting County Secretary Leboo Ole Marintant on Monday stated that motorists will not be permitted to access Harambee Avenue urging them to use alternative roads.

Motorists will not have access to Parliament Road from Uhuru Highway though the closure is temporary,
Pedestrians too have been asked to avoid using the road, with City Hall asking them to maintain a walkway of at least three meters wide in a good paved standard for the time of closure.
Traffic police officers will be deployed on site to ensure that motorists are directed during the rush hours to avoid a traffic crisis.
Two days ago, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority notified motorists of the closure of the left-hand side of Ngong Road.
“Motorists are requested to use alternative routes as we endeavor to improve our urban road network,” the Authority ascertained in a statement.

The closure was temporary in order to allow surface works along the section which is part of an upgrade of Ngong Road to a dual carriage at a cost of Sh1.3 Billion.
