EXCLUSIVE: John Kiriamiti Criticizes 'My Life in Crime' Series

Days after a trailer for an upcoming series based on John Kiriamiti's book My Life In Crime was released, it has emerged that Mr Kiriamiti and his family do not endorse the production.

In a conversation with Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, Annrita Kiriamiti, John's daughter, stated that those behind the series had totally excluded her father in charting the creative direction the show would take.

On her father's reaction to seeing the trailer for the first time, Ms Kiriamiti stated: "He was genuinely disappointed."

The trailer begins with the main character stating "My name is John Kiriamiti," and Mr Kiriamiti's reaction to this was "This is not my story".

In the book, the main character was known as Jack Zollo and not John Kiriamiti.

Ms Kiriamiti explained that none of her father's friends during his most-wanted days had known him by the name Kiramiti but rather, Jack Zollo.

The show is directed by Tanzanian filmmaker Ramadhan Nungu.

The production company acquired production rights for the book, My Life in Crime, from the publisher.

Mr Kiriamiti, as the author, signed off on the deal and was further assured that he would be involved in giving creative direction to the series.

"They went back on their word. The series now lacks authenticity," Ms Kiriamiti affirmed.

My Life in Crime is considered classic Kenyan literature and has been read by multiple generations.
