On the second day of the Devolution Conference 2018 in Kakamega County, Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu and her Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu declared that they had resolved issues around their charcoal.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the two stated that they had put their differences aside to focus on delivering for their electorate.

"We must make sure that we support protection of the environment and ensure our people have a different way of living, not through the cutting of trees.”

The Kiambu Governor reiterated the sentiments assuring that they had held dialogues to ensure that they have a mechanism to stem the conflict.

“It is true, we have resolved it, we have been neighbours for a long time, very good neighbours. We have resolved those differences and are moving forward together," he conveyed.

When questioned further, Ngilu divulged that she had worked with Governor Waititu when she was the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Water.

She stated: “We worked together in the Water Ministry where I was the minister and he was my deputy. We have a lot in common and want to see that devolution helps our people.”

Earlier in March, Waititu took Ngilu to court over her decision to ban charcoal burning in her county.

Following the ban, there has been raging war between the two counties which was characterized by burning of vehicles transporting charcoal in the area.

Ngilu was even summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to explain herself over incitement charges levelled against her.
