DP William Ruto's Plan to Form a Political Team in Nyanza Region Ahead of 2022

Deputy President William Ruto is reported to be making huge steps in wooing the Nyanza region ahead of the much anticipated 2022 presidency bid.

According to former Orange Democrative Movement (ODM) Youth Leader George Ayugi, the Deputy President has for the past three months been recruiting his point men in Luo Nyanza in an operation that majorly targeted former MPs and Members of the County Assemblies.

Mr Ayugi also told the Standard that the DP is building a strong campaign machine in Luo Nyanza.

"Ruto's campaign machine is being assembled and you will be shocked to know who is in the team from Luo Nyanza," Ayugi revealed.

The former ODM leader, who joined Ruto in 2008, added that almost all former MPs from Nyanza have joined the Ruto camp and were holding frequent meetings on the Ruto 2022 bid.

Ayugi, who also sits in a number of Board of Parastatals courtesy of the DP, noted that with the recent handshake between the Deputy President and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga, they will soon be planning to have Ruto tour the region to market himself.

Additionally, former Kabondo Kasipul MP Sylvans Osele and his Ndiwa counterpart Augustino Neto made a public declaration in support of Mr Ruto, claiming that he is better suited to succeed President Kenyatta.

As the 2022 politics continue to take shape in the country, Ruto is further alleged to have already started his campaign trail in Nyanza's neighboring Kisii region.

The Deputy President last week made an extensive tour in the Abagusii land during which most locals assured him of support.

Ruto's close allies in Jubilee have since disclosed that he is taking advantage of the fact that the Abagusii community has no Presidential candidate, and he, therefore, isn't leaving anything to chance in his bid to clinch the top seat.
