Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi Endorsed to Take Over From Governor Sospeter Ojaamong

Details have emerged about plans that have been put in motion to replace a sitting governor.

The battle for Busia governorship is already shaping up more than three years to the next general election.

On Monday, Bakhayo Council of Elders from Nambale and Matayos constituencies issued a presser endorsing Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi to take over the executive seat.

The incumbent Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is serving his second and final term as per the constitutional limit.

Addressing journalists, the elders' chair Peter Mangeni affirmed that the Nambale legislator was the best fit for the position.

“We have vetted him thoroughly and unanimously agreed as elders that he has what it takes to take our county to greater heights,” Mangeni stated.

On his part, Bunyasi acknowledged the endorsement stating that he was ready to battle it out with others in the field.

“I have traversed better part of the county to get some reactions and held consultative meetings with various leaders, there is goodwill,” he explained.

On the other hand, Migori county setting a precedence having the first governor charged with a capital offence.

Governor Okoth Obado has not given any indication that he will resign from his seat as he face murder charges of slain University student Sharon Otieno.

On Thursday, Okoth was handed an extra two nights at the Industrial Area Remand Prison, pending the determination of his bail application.
