CS Amina Mohamed Announces 3 New Measures to Curb Exam Cheating in 2018

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Wednesday announced three new measures that will help in curbing exam cheating in 2018.

Speaking during a meeting with the multi-sectoral National Steering Committee on Curriculum Reform, the CS indicated that mobile phones will not be allowed in schools.

"In fact, only the centre manager (also known as supervisors) will be authorized to have this device," Amina noted.

Secondly, Amina revealed that the supervisors' phones will be monitored amidst concerns that some of the schools have laid down plans to cheat in the final exams.

The third strategy, according to the CS, will involve adequate facilitation of the security agencies involved in securing the examinations.

Amina revealed that the security agencies will be compensated in a fair, just and dignified manner, as per the determined rates.

There are complains over delays in the release of perks owed to police officers involved in guarding the examination centres and ferrying exam material.

On his part, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, on Tuesday, vowed to ensure stringent measures to safeguard the integrity of the national examinations.

"If you thought I have left the docket, you will be surprised by the effort we will make from the Interior Ministry," he stated.

Matiang'i further vowed to ensure speedy apprehension and prosecution of those found in connection to exam cheating.
