EACC Can't Confirm Evans Kidero's Sh9 Billion Net Worth

The legal battle between former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) took a new turn as details of his wealth remain unclear.

EACC, through its lawyer David Ruto, on Tuesday stated that they were uncertain on whether Kidero's wealth was a valued at Sh9 billion as had been reported earlier in October.

On October 5, the commission, through an affidavit presented in court, listed 75 assets owned by Kidero approximating their value at Ksh 9 billion.

The commission has, however, stated that investigations were still ongoing and that they could not tell the actual value of Kidero's wealth since they weren't sure whether he owns the prime property.

"We did not say Kidero owns all the properties. We said allegedly. We are currently treating it as an allegation. It doesn’t categorically mean he owns them, but all the issues are under investigation. It’s after verification that petitioners will be issued with a notice,” clarified the lawyer.

EACC pleaded with the anti-corruption court not to halt the intended execution of the search warrants against Kidero’s assets, cautioning that it would affect investigations into his alleged involvement in graft.

In the court session, EACC had been asked to respond to an application by Kidero who sought to block execution of the search warrants on his property.

He reprimanded the commission for dragging his wife into the probe, demanding that she is left out of the investigations.

Kidero ridiculed the EACC investigation officers of being in "a desperate bid to look for incriminating evidence” against him, his family and employees.

Through his lawyer Tom Ojienda, the former governor maintained that his wealth is only worth Ksh 645 million, not Ksh 9 billion as had been claimed by the EACC.
