8 Ambira High School Students Filmed Insulting CS Amina Mohamed Detained

Eight Ambira High School boys accused of insulting Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and her Interior counterpart Fred Matiang’i have been locked up.

Ukwala Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo detained the eight suspects on the request of the prosecution on Monday morning.

She went ahead to give the prosecution team seven days to complete the investigations.

The action has elicited different emotions from netizens, some who claim that the boys were within their rights to expression while others were angry for their misdemeanour.

Benard Koech advised that "While it is a good move, we should also revisit the role of adults in influencing such behaviors.”

He was of the opinion that the current generation of youth have bad role models right from inside the parliament where MPs usually fight and hurl insults at each other.

However, Otema Ramogo replied, “Judiciary now complicit [sic] in watering down the constitution, with this continued pattern of pre-trial detention, very sad state of affairs!!”

The infamous high school boys came to the limelight when they recorded a video hurling insults at the CSs while also admitting to cheating during the KCSE exams.

The candidates caught the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who responded, "I equally send a very strong warning to those young fellows who think that they can indiscriminately involve themselves in negative activities.”

"We will not and shall not entertain indiscipline and abuse from our young people. You must learn to respect your elders," the President cautioned.
