The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced still pursuing three suspects in the post-election violence case that involved Kenyan leaders.
ICC, in a statement, stated that the three have been on the run since 2015 and they were keen to have them presented in court for prosecution.
Lawyers Paul Gicheru, Phillip Kipkoech Bett (alias Kipseng'erya) and journalist Walter Osapiri Barasa are wanted by Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda's office.
ICC issued the warrant of arrest against Gicheru and Bett on March 10, 2015, and this was unsealed on September 10 the same year. They are not in the Court's custody and have been at large.
On Friday, ICC's statement indicated that the case remains in the pre-trial stage, pending the suspects' arrest or voluntary appearance before the Court. The ICC does not try individuals in their absence.
"ICC relies on State cooperation worldwide to arrest and transfer them to the Court. Philip Bet is suspected of offences against the administration of justice," the announcement by ICC reads in part.
The statement comes at a time politicians in the rift valley region have fueled a blame game over an alleged scheme to revive the ICC case against Deputy President William Ruto.
A witness who recanted his evidence against the DP, William Rono, last week accused Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny of seeking to influence witnesses to testify on the matter.
Kutuny, however, dismissed Rono's claims linking the accusations to an attempt to silence his defense for the region's farmers, after he linked DP Ruto to the maize and fertilizer scandals.
