Nakuru Tuk Tuk Drivers to Surrender Colleague for Assaulting Police Officer

Tuk tuk drivers from Nakuru County vowed to track down their colleague caught assaulting a police officer in a video that went viral on Twitter.

After a meeting with security personnel in the county, they vowed to work hand in hand with the police acknowledging that what the driver had done was unacceptable.

Speaking during the meeting, the association’s chairman Peter Waiganjo affirmed that they knew who the assailant was and pledged to hand him to authorities.

We condemn what happened and say sorry to the people of Nakuru and country at large, we have met with security personnel and we are ready to assist the government in following up the issue and hand over the man,” stated Waiganjo according to The Standard.

The video showed the operator engaged in a confrontation with two officers where he stopped, disembarked and punched one of them in the face.

The second officer, who could be seen trying to rescue his colleague during the attack, was also forced to escape as the assailant threatened to knock him down.

The parties could also be spotted hurling stones against each other in the viral 42-second video clip.

The operators, who condemned the action, were reacting against the video whose assailant has since gone into hiding.

The driver, however, defended his actions revealing that it was a defence mechanism claiming that one of the officers had smashed his side mirror and windscreen.
