Vocal Jubilee Party vice chairman David Murathe on Sunday tabled his resignation from his position at the party.
Various leaders from the party had called for his ouster after he made controversial remarks regarding the 2022 succession politics.
In his resignation, the party leader indicated that his "position is no longer tenable".
"I now find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice-chairman, given that I will have to sit in the same National Executive Council (NEC) with a man I am taking to court to block from running for president," he stated.
He has, however, maintained that he does not support Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Murathe was nevertheless was keen to dissociate his recent comments from President Uhuru Kenyatta indicating that they were his personal sentiments.
He equally indicated that the resignation would enable him continue with his bid to block Ruto's 2022 presidential bid bare knuckles without the party tag.
The politician who recently raised a storm after denouncing a 2022 presidential succession pact in Jubilee insisted that the DP is not a safe candidate for Kenya.
During the address, Murathe explained that he wants the DP to retire alongside President Uhuru come 2022 given that they served the term concurrently.
Following the resignation, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who previously called for elections within the ranks of the ruling party tweeted; "Murathe resigns! It’s about time! Viva! Jubilee viva. Now lets have Jubilee elections".
"Reckless utterances can often lead to unnecessary divisions and chaos. While freedom of expression is a protected right, incivility has no place in present-day Kenya or within the Ruling Jubilee Party. We welcome the timely resignation of Murathe, as a matter of course!" Waiguru added.
