UoN Student Leader Samuel Ragira Murdered

University of Nairobi (UoN) students protested Thursday night following the death of their former student leader at the Institution.

Reports by Daily Nation state the former student leader, Samuel Ragira alias OCS Ragira, was killed allegedly by the police in a fight for control of shops near the school. However, students claim a gang is responsible for the death.

“We will stop at nothing until the students own Club 36 as 95 per cent of them do their shopping there,” stated Antony Manyara, UoN student leader.

Students blocked State House road as they engaged with the police in running battles.

On his Facebook page, OCS Ragira had posted about the backlash before his death.

" Now they want to grab Klabu 36. Goons armed with pangas and pistols to scare people. It cannot happen. #zagazaga," he wrote.

Kenyans on social media have not taken his death lightly, with #RIPOCSRAGIRA trending on Twitter.

"I strongly condemn the killing of one comrade Samuel Ragira who was shot today at club 36 at the University of Nairobi. May his soul Rest in Peace. We shall overcome," Embakasi East MP Babu Owino stated.

"Mr @UKenyatta's trigger-happy goons have murdered another young student in cold blood and in broad daylight. The torture and murder of innocent Kenyans by successive tyrannical regimes have gone on for far too long..We condemn this barbarism unreservedly," noted Miguna Miguna.

"Samuel Ragira was a humble human being, larger than himself. We mourn you. Club 36 is near the University of Nairobi, but not owned by UoN," UoN Vice-Chancellor wrote on Twitter.
