Lupita Nyong'o Publishes New Book

Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has published a new children's book by the name Sulwe.

The book portrays a powerful, moving picture about colorism, self-esteem, and learning that true beauty comes from within.

“I am pleased to reveal that I have written a children’s book! It’s called “Sulwe”! Sulwe is a dark-skinned girl who goes on a starry-eyed adventure and awakens with a reimagined sense of beauty," she noted.

She narrated that the dark-skinned girl encounters lessons that children learn and then spends the rest of her life unlearning.

"This is a story for little ones, but no matter the age I hope it serves as an inspiration for everyone to walk with joy in their own skin," Lupita narrated.

On her social media pages, Lupita expressed her delight stating the book would be launched on October 1, 2019.

She narrated that her inspiration was drawn from not feeling beautiful.

"I put on the TV and only saw pale skin. I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned," she wrote.

Lupita shot to fame after she won an Oscar for Best Supporting actress.

She is also among actors and filmmakers who have been named in the Walk of Fame Class of 2019 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce alongside Tyler Perry, Alan Arkin, Kristen Bell, Daniel Craig, Robert De Niro, Guillermo del Toro, and Anne Hathaway.
