Maina and King'ang'i Gagged Live On Air Over Prominent Lawyer's Scandal

Classic 105 presenters Maina Kageni and Daniel Ndambuki of the popular morning show, Maina and King'ang'i, were forced to abandon a segment while live on air.

During their Friday morning show, the two, who were engaging their listeners on a scandal mentioned in one of the local dailies involving lawyer Donald Korir, abruptly ended the conversation and introduced advertisements.

“Calls have been received demanding that we stop this discussion since it is a matter in court. We now have to stop there and get to something else,” Maina curtly stated just minutes into the conversation.

Reports indicated that the Waiyaki-Way based station was asked to leave the discussion since the matter was still in court.

Kageni returned from a music break with the information, which was reportedly ordered by Radio Africa Group's legal department.

It was, however, not clear who (or which firm) pulled the strings.

At the time of the announcement, listeners of the programme had already begun calling the station and writing them messages regarding the matter.

This was, however, not the first time the two presenters who discuss high-brow topics have been targeted.

In 2018, Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) chairman Ezekiel Mutua claimed that their show aired adult content  and threatened to take action against them.

Other presenters who were warned by the self-proclaimed "moral police" include Joseph ‘Gidi’ Ogidi and Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee of Radio Jambo.
