2 Women Beaten up by Boda Boda Riders in Githurai Kimbo Area

In what was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, two women are nursing injuries after being beaten by boda boda riders over the weekend.

The painful fate befell the two, Minnie Waithera and Anne Mukami when they found themselves in a scuffle between a lorry driver and boda boda riders in Githurai Kimbo area.

What was to be an uneventful lift after work, turned into a nightmare for the two hawkers when midway into the trip, the lorry was pelted with stones. The first hitting the windscreen.

Mukami screamed for the driver to stop unsure of what was happening and that is when the boda boda riders pulled them out descended on them with blows and kicks.

Minnie's aunt, Rosemary Kamau stated that the driver of the lorry had been involved in an accident with a boda boda rider.

"He towed the bike and the rider called friends. That's when they came in a multitude of 50. The guys started beating them, kicking them randomly," she explained.

The two are receiving treatment at Kiambu Level V hospital while the driver of the lorry is admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital.

"Right now, my niece cannot see because of the swelling on her face from the beating. They need to be taken for a CT scan," she told journalists.

Two men who were aboard the lorry are reported to have lost their lives in the incident.

The incident took place a kilometre from the Githurai Kimbo police station and investigations are currently underway.
