Directorate of Criminal Investigation detectives raided a house in Kileleshwa on Monday afternoon in an ongoing probe into a fake gold syndicate.
Despite the police believing that the house belonged to a prominent personality in the country due to the GSU officers deployed to man it, they could not immediately establish who owned it.
“That is what we are trying to establish and my officers are on the ground,” DCI George Kinoti told Capital FM News.
Reports also revealed that 15 suspects were arrested during the sting operation.
The detectives further impounded eight high-end vehicles alongside boxes that are believed to be used to store the fake gold.
“This is a major racket which we must dismantle,” Kinoti stated
“This raid is just one of the many to come,” he added.
Kinoti also indicated that the level of security that had been deployed to the house located at Kaputei Gardens off Othaya Road was of particular interest.
This comes at a time when a senator and two other politicians are under investigations for allegedly defrauding the UAE royal family of Ksh400 million in another gold scam.
The DCI had on Thursday sent a warning to all foreign embassies over the fake gold racket in the country, a message intended for foreigners who come to Kenya with the intention of purchasing gold or any other precious metal.
