Citizen TV's Maasai Mara Exposé Sets Internet Ablaze

Citizen TV has seemingly got on people's nerves both positively and negatively with an upcoming exposé.

According to battle lines that Kenyans have drawn online, we can only anticipate that the programme dubbed the Mara Heist set to air on the night of Sunday, Sept. 1, will be so intense.

According to an advert from the SK Macharia-owned media house, the exposé centres around the Maasai Mara University corruption scandal that nets top officials at the institution including its vice-chancellor.

It employs the expertise of three of the broadcaster's top-ranking journalists, Waihiga Mwaura, Jamila Mohammed and special projects editor, Asha Mwilu.

On Sunday, just hours before the exposé is set to air, two conflicting hashtags started trending on twitter with one pact supporting Citizen TV while the other vindicating Maasai Mara University.

The two hashtags were the station's original, #MaraHeist, and the opposing #TheMaraGlory.

"Corrupt individuals managing public institutions like the Maasai Mara University should be jailed for life to serve as a lesson since the country is running deep in the grave of debts #MaraHeist," expressed Dicken Satika.

"Trying to counter the expose. Let's now wait for #MaraHeist and see exactly what has been happening," argued Fred Kabutu.

Kenyans tweeting using #TheMaraGlory hashtag chose to accentuate the institution's good.

"The only university which has signed MOUs with Witchdoctors across Kenya because it believes in traditional cure. #TheMaraGlory," argued Mark Ngua.

"Alumni are not the only beneficiaries of the said institution, the varsity is there to serve all the stakeholders the community et-al. Am giving my view from a stakeholder's point of view and I hold that #TheMaraGlory must be upheld!" stated Lil Koima.
