Daring Lover Burns Police Station to Ashes

Investigators are probing a fire that burned down a police post in Nyeri County on Sunday, September 22, 2019.

It was reported that an estranged boyfriend to one of the officers based at the camp could have caused the fire that resulted in a Ksh2.5 million loss at Thunguma Police Post.

“The officer and her boyfriend had been fighting as they had some issues. We believe that is what led to the torching of the house,” a police source told the Nation on condition of anonymity.

Reports indicate that the fire broke out from one of the residential units within the police post at around 3am.

A man identified as Davis Kiprono was arrested in connection to the inferno and arraigned in court on Monday, September 23.

He appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Faith Muguongo and charged with burning the building.

The suspect denied the charges levelled against him and was released on a Ksh1 million.

“The court heard that on September 22 at 3am, Kiprono torched Thunguma Police Post in Nyeri Town Constituency, reducing the building and all the property inside to ashes,” the newspaper further reported.

When asked by reporters Nyeri Central police boss Paul Kuria played coy citing that the matter was already in court.

The incident has revived discussions on the security of police stations.
