How Uhuru's Niece's Privileged Family Has Ruined Her Love Life

President Uhuru Kenyatta's niece Nana Gecaga might embody the perfect high profile life many would ask for, but her life has also had its troubles.

In a sit-down with Jackson Biko for Business Daily's profile on her in August 2018, she revealed that her love life had suffered immensely based on her family's last name.

Ms Gecaga, who works as Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) CEO, disclosed that she struggled with relationships since most of her partners were only interested in her status.

The CEO, who was reluctant to answer the question at first, explained that she had achieved a lot by herself but missed out on lifelong partnerships because of her relation to the Kenyattas.

KICC CEO Nana Gecaga stated that most of her past partners were only interested in her status.

"Given your privileged background, what’s the one thing you’ve always wanted and couldn’t get?" asked Biko.

"Getting a genuine partner, I would say. I have struggled with relationships. I have had a couple of good relationships, but mostly it’s been difficult because the people have not been interested in me as a person.

"This is not supposed to elicit sympathy. I don’t say I wish I was not born in a family like this, the love that they provide is undisputed. As I said, I've got three beautiful children. I am a single mother and I am not dating or anything like that," she answered.

She further revealed that she had to work hard to emerge from her surname's glory and prove herself to the world as an individual.

"These past seven years, I've been labelled as the president's niece, before that it was Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's grand-daughter or Udi Gecaga's daughter.

"So, there are a lot of labels out there. But I think one that is emerging now is Nana Gecaga. It's not that it's been staged or orchestrated," she explained at the time.

Before joining KICC in 2017, Gecaga worked in the government as an adviser to former Labour CS Phyllis Kandie.
