Kameme TV appears to be the most affected by the mass firing at Mediamax Networks, with most of its employees losing their jobs on Wednesday, October 30.
Kenyans.co.ke learnt that all the video editors, show presenters and a number of producers have been laid off in measures to 'reduce redundancy' in the company.
A source revealed that 24 journalists had been fired from the station, leaving a lean staff of six people.
Among those left are Ngina wa Wandurwa, Wainaina wa Kiarie, Mwaura wa Gunya, Nungari wa Kamau and Kimani wa Ngunjiri.
News anchor Njogu wa Njoroge was also spared in the purge.
Additional sources revealed that despite the mass firings, the station would remain operational with the morning show still running.
"All the show hosts have been fired. The station will run the morning news segment with music playing back to back running through the day," the source revealed to this writer.
The host of the popular Mugithi show, Jeff Njoroge, that airs on Saturdays has also been laid off.
A total of 160 journalists were laid off in the retrenchment exercise. Those fired will have a meeting at the Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa on Thursday, October 31 where they will be advised on their benefits.
Kameme TV was launched in 2017 to rival Inooro TV in the vernacular TV viewership especially in Nairobi and the Mt Kenya regions.
A previous report by a media research company showed that the station's ratings have been trailing Inooro TV's.
