Kenyan Woman Arrested for Corruption in The US

A Kenyan woman is facing charges in the US after she was arrested for trying to bribe police officers who had detained her for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Daily Nation which quoted Cobb County Police stated that Rachel Michuki, 41, was nabbed on Wednesday, November 27, after crashing her car into another vehicle.

She allegedly offered the enforcers cash in exchange for freedom, telling one of the officers that his colleague “can’t do it alone”.

According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the two officers who handled the incident stated that she had bloodshot and watery eyes when they arrived between 9:20 am and 9:50 am.

She told police she had a few drinks the night before but hadn't consumed alcohol on the morning of the arrest. However, she allegedly failed an alcohol test at the scene.

It was claimed that she would also face charges of endangering the lives of others as her daughter and mother were both in the car at the time.

Channel 2 Action News visited the family’s home noted that Ms Michuki’s mother was seen with a cast on her leg, but her injury was not mentioned in the arrest warrants.

The family declined to speak to the journalist but only chose to state that they “would not confirm or deny” whether she actually tried to bribe the officers.

She was booked into the Cobb County jail on charges of bribery, serious injury by vehicle, DUI and failure to yield.

Michuki was released on Thursday on a Ksh 847,000 bond.

The accident is said to have broken her daughter's collar bone and she was rushed to hospital where she was treated and released.
