Gunshots Fired at Ruto's Church Event, 4 Lawmakers in Trouble [VIDEO]

Gunshots were fired at Deputy President William Ruto's church fundraiser in Nyeri on Sunday, December 8, after the event turned chaotic.

According to a report by Citizen TV, the fistfights involved Jubilee Party factions Kieleweke and Tangatanga outside Giakanja Boys Secondary School where the DP was set to preside over the event forcing the police to fire in the air to disperse the crowds.

The broadcaster further indicated that some of the rowdy youths, who were claimed to have been backed by area MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, were nabbed with crude weapons including knives and clubs.

During the mayhem, 10 people were reportedly taken into custody including four members of the county assembly.

The fundraiser, which was convened by Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, turned into a battlefield moments before the deputy president arrived at the AIPCA Mukaro Church.

The tension spilled over into the event after Ruto checked in and Wambugu blatantly refused to address a crowd gathered by the DP after an invitation to the podium by Mukami.

In a video that has since been shared across multiple social media platforms, Nyeri County Women Representative, Rahab Mukami, is heard welcoming the legislator to the podium, an offer he declines, leading to loud jeers from the frenzied crowd.

The moment proved to be an awkward one for the MP as he sat just one seat away from DP Ruto, a man he had earlier on accused of hiring goons to burn black T-shirts that bore the phrases 'Uhuru's bedroom' on the very same day.

This incident took place just a few hours after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria claimed that Wambugu was organising goons to disrupt Ruto's event.
