Police Raid Jubilee Lawmaker's Shop, Recover 700K Bhang Rollers

Police officers in Kirinyaga County, on Sunday, December 22, raided and recovered up to 700,000 papers used to roll bang inside a shop of a Jubilee Party's lawmaker.

According to a report by Citizen TV, the officers found two cartons that were packed with the material widely known as  rizla inside the shop owned by Kabare ward MCA Chomba Nyaga.

The region's OCPD Anthony Mbogo confirmed that the wrappers were found in Kutus town and that investigation into the matter was launched immediately.

“The illegal rolling papers are known as rizla and Kabare ward MCA Chomba Nyaga has recorded statement at Kutus patrol base,” stated the OCPD.

In his defence, however, Nyaga told the police that the papers were left in his shop by one of his customers.

“A customer left the cartons to my worker but after staying long I informed the police officers,” he explained.

The police are now pursuing one suspect in an attempt to create the relationship between him and the MCA.

Nyaga won the Kabare seat in 2017 while running on the Jubilee Party ticket.

On October 2, 2019, three officers were arrested while transporting bhang and other contraband in a police vehicle at Kanyonyoo, on the Thika-Garissa highway.

Reports from the Daily Nation on October 29, announced that a total of 610 cases of police officers being involved in crimes had been recorded since January 2019.
