NTV news anchor Ken Mijungu is one of the most respected and renowned journalists in the country.
However, despite being a public figure, little is known about the outspoken anchor's private life and in this instance, his multi-million car hire company.
Mijungu is the founder of Execar-tive CarHire, a private company that leases vehicles for events and executive transfers.
The company prides itself in delivery of top-of-the-range cars, luxurious small vehicles and spare parts in the easiest way possible.
"We have top-of-the-range cars and have the ability to get you any that you want. Our prices are very competitive," reads part of the company's information on its Facebook page.
The enterprise, which seems to be thriving, imports vehicles from Japan, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Dubai and the United Kingdom.
Some of their services include; airport to hotel executive transfer, city tours, long and short time motor vehicle leasing services, wedding cars, close protection, conference transfers, VIP & VVIP services and aircraft charter services.
Just like any business, Mijungu's has not lacked a few mishaps. In June 2019, one of the news anchor's vehicles, a Prado VX KCP 199Q, was stolen.
"Stolen. Please help find," Mijungu requested well-wishers on Twitter.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke at the time, Mijungu stated that he noticed his vehicle had been stolen when it's tracking system was disabled.
In August 2019, however, a middle-aged man- Barack Ochieng Aluoch, was arrested in connection to the stolen car but was released on September 20, 2019, when he pleaded not guilty. He was freed on a Ksh 500,000 cash bail.
Some of the requirements needed to start a Carhire business include; acquiring business permits from the county government and setting up an office.
Once this is obtained, an entrepreneur can go ahead and look for vehicle owners who wish to make passive income with their cars.
Kenya is a good market for car hire businesses, especially since it is a regional hub and entrepreneurs can make a killing in VIP transfers for delegates who attend various conferences.
Visiting dignitaries, delegates or tourists often opt to lease vehicles for use during their stay.
Kenya also has a booming market for wedding and related events. According to a 2018 report by Samantha Bridal, Kenyans spend big on nuptials, generating revenue well in excess of Ksh30 billion every year.
"Of this amount, about half (Ksh15 billion) is spent on the actual day of the wedding," stated an excerpt of the report.
On average, about 28,000 Kenyans are wedded every year, with costs ranging between Ksh 500,000 for the conservative couples to Ksh43 million for the rich and flamboyant, inclusive of honeymoon costs.
Such ceremonies call for the hiring of luxurious high-end cars for the bridal convoy.
