The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt against a Kenyan chief executive officer after a Citizen TV exposé laid bare his malpractices and fleecing tendencies.

According to a report aired by Citizen TV on Friday, March 6, Goldenscape CEO Peter Wangai allegedly disappeared at the beginning of the week of Monday, March 2, never to be found.

DCI detectives stormed his company's offices located in Kimathi Street, Lower Kabete and Karen on Friday and combed through documents.

A total of 53 people who claim that they invested in the company have since lodged complaints with the DCI since the exposé aired on the prime time news bulletin of Wednesday, March 4.

The detectives intimated that Wangai is likely to face charges of obtaining money through false pretence as well as several other counts of fraud.

The investors had complained of mispayments of money that ranged from millions of shillings which spilled over to billions.

The manhunt also seeks to nab other management staff of the embattled company.

Goldenscape Greenhouses offered contractual obligations to investors, with an assurance of a Ksh 550,000 return on a Ksh 320,000 investment after six months.

Watching the promos on tv, the deals made were mouthwatering and hard to turn down.

The firm had presented itself as credible and promised captivating returns which when coupled with the commercials on tv, sealed the deal, attracting investors from all corners of the country.

"The money I expected as returns from the investment would have been over Ksh7 million. That would have taken me out of poverty," a disgraced investor told Citizen TV in the exposé.

Former KTN anchor Saddique Shaban took a swipe at the Kilimani-based station, accusing it of double standards for exposing a company it had previously advertised.

"Citizen TV promoted this scam through paid commercial adverts. Citizen TV, in an editorial report, is televising a possible scam about an advert for which they were paid to advertise.

"Do your due diligence next time. Don’t be like Citizen TV," ridiculed Shaban.
