On Friday, April 18, a three-year-old boy was buried alive in Narok County after mudslides swept his family's home.

A report by the Daily Nation, indicated that Shadrack Kimengetich succumbed to the injuries while his mother Sady Rotich and siblings were rushed to the Narok Referral Hospital.

The fatal incident is said to have happened at around 12 midnight when the five family members were asleep in their hut located near the Maasai Mau forest.

"The incident happened as the family was asleep in their grass-thatched house when the earth caved in burying one of the children.

"The others and the mother were lucky to escape alive," Sub-county Commissioner for Narok South Felix Kisalu stated.

He added that the area had received heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday that led to the mudslides.

Area MCA Jefferson Lang'at stated that Kimengetich's body was retrieved after several hours and taken to the Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary.

"Despite heavy rains warnings from government agencies, residents have been hesitant to move to higher ground due to lack of facilities such as tents," Lang'at informed.

Several people are also feared dead and property worth thousands destroyed along the Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot border due to the flash floods and mudslides that occurred in the area.

"We have received reports the area has been hit by landslides and floods. Reports are that so many people have been affected. We have a challenge of accessing the area because all bridges have been swept away," Elgeyo-Marakwet Police Commander John Mwinzi stated.

Mwinzi requested the government to provide helicopters that would aid in assessing the situation.
