A controversial lunch date between ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and his fierce critic Oscar Sudi (Kapseret MP) sparked a storm on Wednesday night, May 6.

Blogger Robert Alai was the first to break the news of the alleged lunch meeting, going on to allude that the two had discussed a devious scheme to undermine President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Oscar Sudi met Raila Odinga for lunch today at The Pumpkin Restaurant in Kilimani. A few hours later, ODM legislators wanted President Uhuru to resign," reads Alai's tweet in part.

A twitter account associated with the Kapseret MP then sent out a message confirming the meeting but denied any political discussions took place.

"Today I bumped into Raila Odinga's table having lunch at a popular restaurant. We had lunch together and thereafter chit chats. Raila is like a father to me. We were close buddies with his son the late Fidel Odinga. When I meet him it doesn't necessarily mean we discuss politics," the tweet read.

This prompted ODM Communications Director Philip Etale to issue a statement of his own, in which he blasted the blogger for spreading unfounded accusations.

"Alai, there are people Raila Odinga can confide in some things and those he can’t. Trying to put words in his mouth won’t help your tanga tanga team climb the steep mountain," he stated in a tweet

The ODM Party leader's close aide Silas Jakakimba also weighed in on the matter, claiming that the entire story was fabricated by individuals allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

On his part, Raila has not commented on the allegations, with his last message being his recent interview on SABC News, where he helped dissect the Covid-19 situation in Africa.

Blogger Abraham Mutai has since come out and rubbished the lunch meeting claims, adding that it was just a tactic to divide Raila's camp.

"There was no meeting between Oscar Sudi and Raila Odinga. A myth sanctioned a few minutes ago at Karen residence.

"If there should be a meeting to discuss anything between William Ruto and Raila Odinga it will be between Raila Odinga's surrogates and Ruto’s attack dogs. Not Raila Odinga and Ruto’s surrogates," he stated.
