Covid-19 Cases Break 24-Hour Record

Kenya has recorded 688 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) with the total cases reported so far rising to 12,750.

During a press conference in Embu County on Saturday, July 18, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that the confirmed cases were recorded from 4,522 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

The total samples tested since Coronavirus broke out in March 2020 now stands at 238,163. Out of the 688 positive cases, 425 were male and 263 were female.

457 people recovered from Covid-19 with the total recoveries tallying at 4,440. 401 patients were on home-based care while 56 were hospitalised.

Three people died in the last 24 hours with the death toll rising to 225 while the youngest patient was 7-month old infant and the oldest was 95-years old.

Nairobi couinty lead in cases with 537 cases, Kiambu 59, Machakos 20, Mombasa 18, Busia 15, Kajiado 14, Kilifi 5, Laikipia 5, Meru 4, Tana River 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Nakuru 2, Bungoma 1, Isiolo 1, Makueni 1, Migori 1, Narok 1.

In Nairobi county the 537 cases are in; Lang'ata 120, Westlands 74, Starehe 64, Dagoretti North 61, Embakasi East 51, Kibra 28, Embakasi West 23, Makadara 20, Kamukunji 19, Ruaraka 17, Roysambu 15, Kasarani 14, Embakasi Central and Embakasi South 12 cases each and Embakasi North 7.

The cases in Kiambu County were recorded in Kiambaa, 11, Gatundu South 9, Githunguri 8, Kabete 7, Kiambu Town & Ruiru 6 cases each, Kikuyu 4 and Juja 3. In Machakos County, the cases were in Athi River 16, Machakos Town 3 and Kangundo 1.

Busia County cases were in Teso South 10, Matayos 3 and Teso North 2. while Kajiado county were in Kajiado North 8 and Kajiado East 6. Kilifi had 5 cases in Rabai. In Laikipia County, Laikipia East (5). Meru county 4 cases were in Igembe Central 3 and Imenti North 1.

Tana River has 2 cases in Galole. Uasin Gishu, were 2 cases in Ainabkoi and Moiben. Nakuru County 2 cases were in Naivasha.

The counties that recorded one case each were Bungoma, Isiolo, Makueni, Migori and Narok.

As it stands since the first case was reported in Mrach 2020, Nairobi County leads with a cumulative total of 7,298 while Mombasa is second at 1,812 cases and Kiambu with 725 cases.

The Health CS further advocated for personal responsibility in protecting each other and observing safety guidelines. 

"You save me, I save you. We agree that we are going to save each other. Take the responsibility of saving your mother, father or friend," he stated.

He further commended measures taken by Embu county on upgrading its health facilities.

"Here in Embu, the County has established over 360 beds and an additional 18 ICU beds in readiness for the management of Covid-19. It is a great thing to see," he stated.
