President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech on Wednesday, August 26, was one of the most highly anticipated addresses in recent history.

Kenyans were eager to find out whether any Covid-19 measures would be lifted, however, the President's new shirt ended up hogging all the spotlight

His attention-grabbing brown kitenge shirt made waves on social media platforms, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

President Uhuru looked dashing in his African print shirt but the situation went downhill when a photo emerged of a set of pillows.

The material and print on the house pillows looked eerily familiar to President Uhuru's new shirt.

This led to a barrage of jokes 'Fellow Kenyans, I have ensured that we are 'cushioned' from Covid-19' was one of the hilarious remarks that cracked several ribs online.

"How could they be dressing President Uhuru Kenyatta with the same material making seat cushions," a user named Hanifa Bintali remarked.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta already made a statement with the shirt. Looks like he is about to bring some good news," another user remarked.

The president then went on to lift the ban on sale of alcohol in restaurants. Whether or not the announcement was tied to his multi-coloured shirt is subject to debate.

The president has been rocking African print shirts in all of his 10 addresses to the nation since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

His latest shirt is just one of many that the President has adorned in the recent past that are made locally at Rivatex East Africa Limited).

African print seems to be his favourite and he can be argued to be the number one brand ambassador for Rivatex, although critics argue that favouring casual wear in the middle of a devastating pandemic sends the wrong message.

Rivatex Managing Director, Prof Thomas Kipkurgat, once revealed that the President ordered the shirts frequently and that they were designed specifically to capture his tastes and size.

“The President is our number one marketer and we laud him for constantly taking the lead in promotion of local products," he remarked.

His latest addition certainly caught the eye.
