A watch is an important accessory to a man's outfit and it makes a silent statement on the individual's status and style preferences.
A number of Kenyan politicians are known to have flaunted their expensive timepieces in public events which are estimated to cost millions.
Here are some politicians who have stepped out in some expensive pieces.
President Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta has on several public outings donned expensive watches that have not escaped the hawk-eyed Kenyans.
In October 2019, his timepiece, a black A.Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon watch became the subject of discussion with a further search revealing that it cost USD 250,071 which translates to Ksh 25,947,366 using the exchange rate at the time.
In other appearances, he was spotted with an Arnold & Son HM Perpetual Moon which costs an upwards of Ksh 3 million.
His collection also comprises a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust which is estimated to retail for more than Ksh 500,000.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho
Known for his expensive taste, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, was in July 2019, seen wearing a Richard Mille Felipe Massa Flyback Chronograph.
According to online sources, the high-tech watch, which was a collaboration between Richard Mille and Felipe Massa brands, costs £179,995 (without shipping charges) which amounts to Ksh23,224,754 using the exchange rate at the time.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has also stepped out in expensive attire. On January 17, 2020, he showed off a Versace wool sweater that cost him Ksh137,500.
Deputy President William Ruto
DP William Ruto back during the 2015 Beyond Zero marathon donned a Hublot Big Bang Rose Gold Watch, valued at around Ksh3 million at the time.
Described as a work of art, Ruto's watch has a subtle date window, uniquely positioned near the 4 and 5 o’clock integrated so creatively and beautifully – there when you want it, easily visible with the white setting, and gone when you don’t need to pay attention to, perfectly blending in with the rest of the composition.
Mounted in an Ksh18,000 rose gold framework, the watch has countless fancy features to this watch, such as the 42-hour power reserve hacking seconds, which allows you to stop the balance and synchronize a reference time when you pull the crown.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko
Sonko has not shied away from showcasing his collection of expensive things.
During an address at Kasarani in 2019, Sonko donned a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date 11 to match his attire.
It is estimated the watch cost not less than Ksh2.9 Million.
A year earlier, he disclosed that he had spent Ksh600,000 on a Hublot Watch during an interview in 2018.
"I bought it for $6,000. Not such costly. I got it from Dubai when I was on a business trip," he told Jeff Koinange.
