11 Deaths Reported as Covid-19 Cases Near 42,000 Mark

Kenya has recorded 73 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 41,619. 

Regrettably, 11 patients succumbed to the disease over the same period, bringing the total number of deaths to 777.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday, October 12, announced that 2,001 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total samples tested so far to 593,199.

Out of the 73 cases, 3 are foreigners.

Additionally, 46 are male and 27 are female with the youngest case being a 17-year-old and the oldest aged 77 years.

At the same time, 97 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,097.

Of the latest recoveries, 66 were discharged from various hospitals across the country, with 31 recovering under the home-based care system.

The distribution of the cases by counties was highlighted as follows: Nairobi 34, Kilifi 18, Mombasa 11, Busia 4, Taita Taveta 2, Kirinyaga 1, Kiambu 1, Meru 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution of the 34 cases in Nairobi: Kibra and Westlands 3 cases each, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Embakasi East, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Lang'ata, Makadara, Mathare, Roysambu, Ruaraka and Starehe 2 cases each.

In Kilifi, the 18 cases are from Magarini 12, Malindi 4, and Kilifi South 2. In Busia, the 4 cases are from Matayos 3, and Teso North 1.

In Taita Taveta, the 2 cases are all from Voi. The case in Kirinyaga, is from Kirinyaga Central, the case in Kiambu, is from Kiambu Town. The case in Meru, is from Imenti North and the case in Uasin Gishu, is from Turbo.
