14 Die as Covid 19 Cases Cross 50,000

Kenya has recorded 836 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 50,833.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 4,076 samples had been tested over the same period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 666,122.

The positivity rate now stands at 20.5 percent, up from the 4.4 percent in September when President Uhuru Kenyatta opened up more sectors of the economy. 

Of the positive cases, 822 were Kenyans while 14 were foreigners.

618 were male and 218 were female while the youngest case was a four-month-old infant and the oldest is aged 89 years.

At the same time, 403 patients were discharged, 250 from the home-based care program and 153 from the hospital around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 34,832.

Regrettably, 14 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 934.

Currently, there are 1,150 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide while 3,961 are on home-based isolation and care.  There are 38 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 15 of whom are on ventilatory support and 16 on supplemental oxygen.

In the county distribution, Nairobi led with 556 cases in the past twenty-four hours, followed by Uasin Gishu with 68, Mombasa 62 and Kiambu 32.

Nakuru county reported 24 cases, Laikipia 22, Kajiado 12, Machakos 8, Kisumu 7, Murang'a 7, Meru 6, Nandi 5, Trnas Nzoia 4, Turkana 4, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Kisii 3, Baringo 2, Narok 2, Kakamega 2, Wajir 2, Nyandarua 1, Samburu 1, Kilifi 1, Siaya 1 and Homabay 1.

In Nairobi County, the cases were reported in Lang'ata (295), Kibra (43), Westlands (31), Embakasi Central (22), Dagoretti North (21), Makadara (18), Ruaraka (16).

Embakasi West and Kasarani (15) cases each, Embakasi East, Embakasi South and Roysambu (14) cases each, Dagoretti South (13), Embakasi North (12), Kamukunji (8), Mathare (3) and Starehe (2).

In Uasin Gishu, the 68 cases are from Ainabkoi (52), Turbo (11), Kesses and Soy had two cases each.

The cases in Mombasa county reported cases ni Mvita (27), Nyali (14), Jomvu and Kiasuni (7) cases each, Likoni (5) and Changamwe (2).

In Kiambu, the 32 cases are from Kiambaa (9), Kiambu Town and Kikuyu (5) cases each, Thika (4), Kabete and Ruiru (3) cases each, Juja (2) and Lari (1).
