Catherine is the current Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

She served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Ireland from 2007 to 2014 and became the first envoy to Ireland.

The ambassador, who is a sister to Nominated Senator Beth Mugo, lost her son Mbugua Mwangi and his fiancee Rosemary Wahito during the 2013  terrorist attack at Westgate Mall in Nairobi.

BBI Joint Sec Ambassador Martin Kimani was also nominated to be the permanent representative to the UN in New York by President Kenyatta.

During his vetting in Parliament, he revealed he was worth Ksh58 million.

Ambassador Kimani had listed President Uhuru Kenyatta as a referee in his CV, attracting rebuke from MPs who claimed he wanted to intimidate them.

“Why did you choose to list President Uhuru as your reference or are you trying to intimidate us?" Posed Mandera North MP Abdullah Bashir.

“I thought they (referees) are people who know my character and in particular to this assignment. I commit to providing another name,” Kimani responded.

He has a rich background in power circles both in Kenya and in the international space.

The diplomat was appointed as the President’s Special Envoy for Countering Violent Extremism in 2016 due to his role as Director of Kenya’s National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

Martin served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations in Nairobi, and as Permanent Representative to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

In the past 20 years, he has worked at senior levels in the global currency and bond markets, political risk advisory for underwriters and other corporates, and peace and security in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.
