President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, December 9, launched the Moyale One-Stop Border Post alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The PM disclosed that the new facility was set to boost trade between the two countries and was made possible by the good relations shared between the neighbours.

“We are one people, one country. This new infrastructure will help the two countries in terms of business, trade and tourism,” stated Ahmed.

A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed a two-story building that will serve as the main terminal of the border post.

Outside the building are toll stations that have been clearly demarcated to attend to private cars, buses as well as trucks.

The Trans African Highway which connects the two countries is also built to bitumen standards and spots clear road makings.

For travelers entering Kenya from Ethiopia, they can access the border post services including Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs and border control as well as a National Police Service all under one roof.

Other services include public health, immigration services, customs department, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) services and Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Department.

Speaking at the event, Uhuru encouraged traders from both countries to utilize the new infrastructure especially the One-Stop Border Post to boost cross-border trade.

“In addition to facilitating trade between the two countries, the border post will also enhance mutual interactions among our people and create synergy and unity of purpose,” stated the president.

The two later inaugurated is the 500-kilometer Hawassa-Hagere Mariam-Moyale Road which is part of the Trans African Highway and a key segment of Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa transport corridor.
