UPDATE: Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka died on Friday, December 11, at the Nairobi Hospital.

The family of Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka on Thursday, December 10, disputed rumours that were being peddled on social media platforms.

In a statement, the family indicated that Kabaka was recuperating well at the Nairobi Hospital.

"We wish to inform the People of Kenya and Residents of Machakos County in particular that Senator Hon Boniface Mutinda Kabaka, Advocate is recuperating at Nairobi Hospital.

"Please avoid or ignore the distressing rumours and fake news and continue praying for the full recovery of our brother, father, friend, pillar and senator," the family stated.

The family's statement was also backed by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua who stated that the senator is still fighting for his life in hospital.

“I can confirm that the senator is alive, only that his condition has not improved since his admission to hospital on December 4. He is still in critical condition. I urge those spreading rumours of his death to respect the legislator and his family at this difficult time," the governor stated.

Kabaka was rushed to hospital on Friday, December 4, after he allegedly collapsed at the 3Dee Apartments, Kilimani.

At the time, the senator is said to have been in the company of Esther Muli, a teacher at Mathemba High School in Kathonzweni, Makueni County.

Muli was arrested on Monday and was expected to face charges of attempted murder.

She was, however, released on Wednesday after vomit samples analysed at a Government chemist revealed that there were no toxins fed to the lawmaker as had been earlier speculated.

In a court session, investigators stated that Kabaka drove himself to a house in the upmarket Kilimani estate without a bodyguard and driver and checked in at 3Dee Apartments at 2 p.m.

The two ordered drinks and food through the phone from the nearby 3Dee Restaurant.

Things quickly took a wrong turn as the senator suddenly fell sick and had to be rushed to Nairobi Hospital.
