UPDATE Wednesday, December 16: Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has been released.
The former lawmaker was set free alongside Belgut MP Nelson Koech after they were accused of taking part in election malpractices.
The two were freed on Ksh 30,000 bond each.
UPDATE: Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has been arrested.
Muthama was taken into custody after chaos erupted at the Jomo Kenyatta Primary School polling station in Msambweni.
The station was later closed and declared a no-go zone.
Lungalunga MP Abdalla Mwashetani escaped arrest by a whisker after GSU officers allegedly surrounded his residential home.
Videos that emerged online on Tuesday, December 15, hinted that the MP might have been saved by the unity provided by some of his colleagues.
In one of the clips, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Moha Jicho Pevu, was seen scolding a police officer in relation to the incident.
Ali accused the police of taking sides in the election when they are supposed to maintain a neutral stance.
"It is as if you have taken sides. We are all grown-ups and so we should talk respectfully. Is he under arrest?" Questioned Ali.
The video also showed that Ali was in the company of other lawmakers including Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.
Another video later emerged showing a person with Mwashetani's likeness running away from GSU officers.
Separately, Ali was caught in a confrontation with Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sherrif at Gombato Police Station.
It was revealed that 25 people were arrested in the constituency past curfew hours on the eve of the by-elections.
The group, which included polling agents, were on Tuesday arraigned at Msambweni law courts where 13 were fined Ksh1,000 each while 12 were discharged.
Just days before the elections were scheduled to take place, President Uhuru Kenyatta met with ODM Msambweni MP aspirant Omar Idd Boga during his tour of Mombasa.
The meeting took place at State House Mombasa with ODM Deputy Party Leader and the area Governor Hassan Joho also present.
The meeting in State House was regarded as an endorsement by the President, with his party, Jubilee failing to field a candidate.
