ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi's Mother Dies

Amani National Congress (ANC) Leader Musalia Mudavadi's mother, Hannah Mudavadi, has passed on.

The news of her demise was shared by the former Vice President on Monday morning, December 28, 2020.

"On behalf of the entire Mudavadi family, I wish to announce that our family Matriarch, Mama Hannah Atsianzale Mudavadi, has gone to be with the Lord. She rested at 5.00 am today at the Nairobi Hospital. She was 92 years old," Mudavadi revealed.

"As a family, we are devastated by this loss but are bearing it with grace. Please remember us in your prayers. The Lord gives and the Lord takes. May our dear Mum's soul RIP," he condoled.

President Uhuru Kenyatta joined leaders from across the country in eulogising Mama Hannah.

“Mama Hannah was the cornerstone of the Mudavadi family, a wise woman of few words on whose broad shoulders many people were raised to become great Kenyans.

“Mrs Mudavadi was a gracious and loving mother, a true matriarch who loved and took care of all people, especially those in need, without any reservation,” President Kenyatta said in his message to Mudavadi's family.

Deputy President William Ruto hailed Mama Hannah as a devoutly religious, respected and responsible woman who raised upright, hardworking and diligent children.

"She was a tireless, humble and persistent figure who modelled a generation of illustrious leaders. We honour the marvellous life Mama Atsianzale led and the indelible legacy that she leaves behind," DP Ruto remarked.

"Our thoughts and prayers to the Mudavadi family, friends and the people of Vihiga. Rest In Peace, Mama Atsianzale," the DP condoled.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula hailed the deceased as the pillar of her family as he shared his message of condolence.

"My deep and heartfelt condolences to my brother Mudavadi and family following the demise of family matriarch Mama Hannah. She's been the strength and pillar of the family for many years. Let's mourn in the name of the Lord," Wetangula condoled.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya described the deceased as generous, humble, charismatic, insightful and hardworking.

"We will miss her wise counsel, knowledge and support. My prayers and thoughts to her family led by my brother Hon Musalia Mudavadi. May God grant you immeasurable comfort and strength to bear the loss," Oparanya condoled.

Chief Justice David Maraga led the judiciary in mourning the ANC leader's mother.

"I have learnt with great sadness about the demise of Mama Hannah Atsianzale Mudavadi, mother of Hon. Musalia Mudavadi. On behalf of the Judiciary and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends. May God comfort them in this trying time," Maraga wrote.

Mama Hannah was one of the two wives of veteran politician Moses Mudamba Mudavadi, who passed on in 1989. 

Members of the public joined in comforting Mudavadi's family, praying that the deceased rest in eternal peace.
