Education Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Zack Kinuthia on Monday, February 15, faced strong opposition from boda boda riders after he tried to criticize Deputy President William Ruto at a safety training meeting in Ndumberi, Kiambu County.

The CAS delved into the subject of politics during the training and made certain remarks regarding Ruto, but which did not auger well with the boda boda operators.

The riders heckled the CAS when he accused DP Ruto of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta, telling the education boss to stick to the agenda of the day that brought him.

The National Government through the Ministry of Public Service is conducting a boda boda safety training exercise countrywide in partnership with Youth and Gender Services, County Governments and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The training began on Monday, February 15, in Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos counties. ICT Secretary Joe Mucheru, who was joined by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, launched the exercise in Kiambu County.

Cabinet Secretary for the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Prof Margaret Kobia was in the company of Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua where she set the training in motion at People's Park, Machakos County.

The training aims at instilling integrity, character, discipline, and patriotism among operators in an effort to enhance competency. The riders will also obtain smart Driving Licences and competency certificates upon completing the training.

The boda boda transport industry has grown significantly fast since the early 2000s. It has provided employment opportunities to the youth, and is a source of livelihood and economic empowerment.

The program will also facilitate safety among riders as the country experiences 4,000 deaths and 10,000 injuries from boda bodas.

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, February 13, was also forced to cut short his speech in Isiolo County by residents who did not want to be lectured on the Building Bridges Initiative report.

"I have respected the president and, I have never gone against him even when some of the duties that are supposed to be performed by my office have been allocated to other individuals," Ruto had stated in response to Uhuru's call that he resigns he was dissatisfied.
