Details have emerged on the identity of a man who was killed alongside his girlfriend and her son at Government Quarters in Jogoo Road. The murdered boyfriend was a senior seminarian waiting to graduate as a Catholic priest.
The body of Kelvin Kipkoech was discovered alongside that of Charity Cherop Cheboi, a civil servant working at the Ministry of Interior Coordination, and her son Allan Kipng’entich.
“My son was a seminarian and all of us were expecting that he would start his missionary work as a Catholic Priest soon because he had just completed exams,” Mr Kimaiyo, Kelvin’s father said.
The family added that their son was studying at St Thomas of Aquinas Seminary School in Nairobi and was in his eighth year and due to graduate as a Catholic priest this year.
Kimaiyo added that they expected their son to get home on Saturday 20, after he had completed his examinations.
He went on to say that his son called him on Friday 19, to request that he is sent fare. The father sent him the bus fare on Sunday but when he called to ask him if he had received the money, Kelvin did not answer.
Beatrice Kimaiyo, Kelvin’s mother, said that after her son failed to pick up the phone on Sunday they assumed that he was on his way home.
A team led by Soy Parish Priest Father Thomas Kigen went to Kimaiyo’s home to pass the sad news.
“The big question is who killed our son. A young man who was preparing to come home, and for what reason? Was he killed by robbers? We are asking the police and the DCI to unearth the mystery surrounding this death,” Fr Kigen said.
About 10 Km away from Kelvin's home is Charity Cherop's rural home.
Matthew Cheboi, Cherop’s father, described his daughter as hardworking and cheerful. He added that he had spoken to his daughter on Sunday while she was in the company of her son Allan who was in grade two.
“She called and told me that she was from church and was buying some food before going home. That was our last communication until Tuesday when we received the devastating news from our relatives in Nairobi that my daughter and grandson were no more,” Cheboi said.
The two families said they were not aware that Kelvin, a seminarian and Charity were lovers
Kelvin’s body was found with his hands and legs bound with a laptop cable. The Directorate of Crimanal Investigation (DCI) have joined the Kenya police in investigating cause of death.
