There are certain places you probably never knew existed in Kenya - beautiful natural places that continue to place Kenya firmly on the world map as one of the most luxurious destinations in the world.
One such place is an Island - hidden next to the shores of the Indian ocean. It's probably the only individual island resort. Chale Island is an exquisite and breathtaking island that boasts of a tranquil and serene environment at the Kenyan coast.
Many, however, have described it as a headland rather than an island. Located at the northern end of Msambweni Bay in Kwale County, the island is also known as a sacred kaya.
Sitting in the middle of the island is a resort, probably the only in Kenya, and prides itself as one of the most deluxe resorts offering a high-end luxurious experience. It has a stunning white beach with coral reefs and surrounded by a mangrove forest.
The resort is divided into two parts: resort and sacred forest or “kaya”. Further, the island offers a diverse mixture of indigenous and tropical Flora that attracts a variety of animal life primarily several species of endangered sea turtles.
Over two-thirds of the island is covered by ancient Mangrove forest. Of interest, however, is the private powder-white beach which is only accessible to the hotel guests.
The structures within the resort at the island offers a variety of Swahili buildings combined with Lamu furniture, African art and varnished Mahogany.
In order to preserve the Swahili culture, all buildings are constructed with locally quarried coral blocks and are roofed with high, palm leaves dubbed "Makuti" thatch.
"The aim was and is “the buildings should be elegant but not luxurious, blending into the natural environment and reflecting the traditional architecture with a minimum four-star standard,” reads an excerpt from the statement in the resort's website.
The exotic resort offers a thrilling way of relaxing such as a nice time at the spa, diving at the local dive center, kayaking or canoeing through the Mangrove forests, beach snorkeling, game fishing and local Catamaran sailing.
Further, the island was pegged with having one of the most beautiful beaches in Kenya by global media house Cable News Network (CNN).
