New details have emerged regarding the missing case of a Nyeri businessman who was abducted on Tuesday, June 29, in broad daylight.

Reports show that Gerald Guandaru had a past criminal case. Further, the businessman had been kidnapped before in 2017 under similar circumstances.

Police reports revealed that Guandaru was abducted on May 30, 2017, which led to his family reporting the matter at Nyeri police station.

He was found by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers a day later in possession of a rifle and two tusks. Guandaru alongside another man presumed to be his accomplice were arrested and charged for being in possession of the tusks as well as the rifle.

The case dragged on for three years and Guandaru was later acquitted of both charges in 2020.

Detectives privy to the investigations believe the past abduction case could be related to the current one.

The new development comes as the businessman went missing after been abducted by a three-man gang outside his barbershop in Nyeri.

Witnesses stated that Guandaru had parked outside the barbershop when a vehicle parked right behind him. Three men came out and tried to get him to open the car but he declined, and the men presumably walked away.

However, minutes later after the businessman walked out of the car and headed to his shop, he was allegedly grabbed by the men and dragged to their car.

Witnesses pointed out that the abductors seemed unperturbed with the surveillance cameras and bystanders who were close by.

Detectives, after reviewing the surveillance footage, are yet to get leads on the whereabouts of the businessman as well as finding the culprits behind the scheme.
