Solomon Mugera, the Regional Editor BBC Africa has left the famed British media house.
In a post on Twitter on Friday, August 27, Mugera confirmed his departure from the media house after 23 years.
Colleagues from the BBC bid farewell to the now-former Regional Editor, describing him as a hardworking person and trendsetter for helping launch the Nairobi BBC bureau.
Mugera thanked the British broadcaster for the opportunity to work for them for 23 years having joined in 1998, in what he described as "an epic journey".
"Thank you, #BBC for the opportunity to serve the organisation and our audiences in #Africa and around the world. It’s been nearly 23 years of an epic journey, working with an amazing @BBCAfrica and teams from across the #BBC. From me, my dear wife @Karouzy and our sons, Thank You," the journalist tweeted.
A memo sent to journalists working at the BBC and seen by Kenyans.co.ke, indicated that Mugera's contribution was vital in the growth of the media house in the region.
"Solomon joined the Swahili Service in 1998 as a producer and leaves us as the head of a region with more than 500 staff. Over the years has come to embody BBC Africa," the memo read in part.
"He is one of our highest-profile leaders and a prominent figure for the BBC World Service - we will miss him hugely," it continued.
BBC Africa informed the staff that Mugera had decided to leave the media house to explore new opportunities although they did not reveal what his new assignment will be.
The media house, however, confirmed that the seasoned journalist would be officially leaving the BBC by the end of September.
