A Form Two student from Chavakali Boys High School in Vihiga County was forced to spend a night on the streets of Kakamega town.
The student, who was sent home for lack of school fees on Wednesday, September 1, narrates in a video how he walked for 35 kilometres from the school to Kakamega town, only to be stranded there in the late evening hours.
The student said that he did not have money to pay for his transport home, leaving him with the only option: to walk. He narrated to concerned residents of the Western Kenya town that he sought refuge on the streets so as to rest enough and resume his journey home at dawn.
"I did not have fare so I had to walk. I took breaks in between and as soon as I had rested enough, I resumed my journey," stated the student.
He explained that he met a security guard who allowed him to spend a night at his place of work after he (the security guard) saw him walking in the middle of the night.
"I met a security guard here in Kakamega town and asked him if I could camp with him for the night and later resume my journey because I would feel safer," narrated the student.
The student, in the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke said that he had not eaten for over twelve hours since he started his journey home. The security guard was kind enough to get him some snacks to give him some strength.
"I have not even eaten since I left school in the morning, the securit
y guard bought me tea and some mandazi," added the Form Two student.
The student, who hails from West Pokot County, approximately 184 kilometres from the school, sat his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations in 2019, scoring 384 marks and securing a place in the school.
The stranded student pleaded for help to clear the fee arrears as his family is unable to meet the cost.
"I plead with anyone who can help me pay my fees. I am helpless and my family is unable to pay for the fees; my father and mother are jobless." pleaded the student.
