Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has advised the youth on how to plan their days if they have to be successful in life.

Sonko, who was impeached in 2019 by the County Assembly and later the Senate upheld his removal, has challenged the youth to have a proper plan of their days if they are to get themselves out of poverty.

The former Governor failed to understand how the youth would wake up very early in the morning to make social media posts on politicians, yet the politicians themselves were sound asleep.

Hata kama vijana wa siku hizi how do you wake up at 6 a.m. and the first thing to post kwa your social media ni mambo ya politics na hao politicians wamelala (Youth of nowadays, how do you wake up at 6am and the first thing you talk about is politics while the politicians are asleep?” wondered Sonko.

The flamboyant politician - who served as the Nairobi Senator between 2013 and 2017, also served as the Member of Parliament for Makadara Constituency from 2010 to 2013 when he was elected following a by-election - has asked the youth to avoid starting their day by politicking, rather advising them to start off by thinking about business and empowerment.

“In the morning, thank God for your new day, think about empowerment first, side hustle, your education upgrade, then at 10 a.m. you can start blogging about politics otherwise,” advised Sonko.

The Governor, who has since kept a low profile following his impeachment, warned the youth that they risk becoming useless in the future if they keep fighting for politicians, noting that the same politicians pitting Kenyans against each other will form a coalition and leave the electorate in the middle of a confusion and crisis.

Utatupa rada when these politicians unapigania will unite and form a coalition... I wish everyone of you a blessed week (You will have wasted your precious time and resources when these politicians you are fighting for unite and form a coalition),” added the former City Governor.

Sonko’s advise resonates with his experience after he fell out of favour with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee administration despite having campaigned for him in three subsequent presidential elections.

Sonko is facing a myriad of cases in court including those related to violence and abuse of office.

The wealthy politician announced in January 2021 that he was taking a 10-year sabbatical from active politics after his troubled stint as county boss.

He was ousted as Nairobi Governor on Thursday night, December 17, after 27 out of 45 Senators voted to uphold the motion fronted by MCAs.
