All planes landing at Wilson Airport were on Tuesday, September 7, diverted to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
A statement by Fly Safarilink to their clients indicated that the flights had been diverted due to bad weather.
The management did not, however, disclose for how long the planes would be landing at JKIA.
"We are currently experiencing bad weather conditions at Wilson Airport, Nairobi and hence all incoming flights are being diverted to land at JKIA. Please bear with us as we continue to monitor the situation."
On Monday, September 6, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that there would be a 7-day total rainfall 1-10mm expected over some parts of Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Makueni, Tana River, Garissa, Turkana and Coastal Counties.
Experts say that aircraft dispatcher training prepares dispatchers to deal with expected and unexpected diversions from the planning phase and on.
Some of the other reasons that may lead aircraft dispatchers to divert a flight include; unruly passengers and health and safety of those onboard.
Two months ago, a light aircraft crashed in Eburru forest near Ndabibi trading centre, 40km from Naivasha town, killing one on the spot.
Initial investigations indicated that the accident occurred due to bad weather.
According to witnesses, the plane circled the forest and nearby farms several times seeking to land before it crashed.
“The plane was used in the ongoing spraying of locusts in Northern Kenya and was on its way to Lodwar when it crashed, killing one and injuring two others,” Nakuru county police commander Beatrice Kiraguri stated.
