Post-mortem results for slain athlete Agnes Tirop were conducted at the Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) mortuary on Tuesday, October 19, revealing more details surrounding her death.
The autopsy showed that Tirop died as a result of injuries caused by stab wounds on the neck. In addition, she was hit on the head with a blunt object.
The three-hour-long post-mortem was carried out by two pathologists and a forensic physician at the ICRH in the presence of a family pathologist.
Speaking to journalists, pathologist Dr Dorothy Njeru stated they had prepared a report and handed it over to homicide detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
However, Njeru did not disclose the number of stab wounds that Tirop persevered before her death, noting that the DCI officers would issue more details.
“Generally, the examination has shown injuries due to blunt post-trauma," Njeru stated.
Following the autopsy, the body was moved to Eldoret Hospital mortuary ahead of burial in Kapnyamisa village, Nandi County.
“My sister's burial will be on Saturday. We are moving the body to Eldoret to ease our preparations for burial,” Limo, the late athlete’s elder brother stated.
The main suspect in the murder, Emmanuel Ibrahim Rotich, was on Monday, October 18, arraigned at the Iten Law Courts.
Senior Principal Magistrate, Charles Kutwa, directed Rotich to be detained at the Eldoret Police Station for 20 days pending investigations.
The star athlete, had just become the world record holder last month after winning the 10km road race. She clocked 30:01 during the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
