Police have narrowed down to two students from Buruburu Girls High School in Nairobi County believed to be the masterminds of a fire that razed down a dormitory - an incident that left 59 learners admitted to hospital.

According to detectives privy to the investigations, the two are said to have been spotted leaving the dormitory before the fire began.

Detectives handling the case further revealed that after investigations, they are convinced that the two girls had something to do with the Sunday, October 31 cubicle fire.

The police are expected to forward the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) who would advise on the charges or direct officers to conduct further investigations.

The school had stipulated tough conditions before students resumed classes.

Among the instructions include clearing all fee arrears before sending the learners back to school, a Ksh1,500 fine for each parent to pay as the money would go towards rebuilding of the dormitory that was consumed by the inferno.

Further, the parents were directed to inspect their kids and ensure they did not carry any sprays, perfumes, or sanitizers with them as the items would not be allowed in school.

The Buruburu Girls' administration also notified parents and guardians that no vehicle would be allowed in the school compound when they drop off their kids on the reporting day.

In addition, the students would not report at the same time. Forms Three and Four students were directed to report back to school on Monday, November 8, while Forms One and Two learners will be expected to report on Tuesday, November 9.

The school's Principal, Caroline Maina, had affirmed the school would invite guests to offer counselling services to the students.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has intimated that those students found culpable would face the law, with more than thirty schools having reported fired incidents during this term.

"That information is going to be on your record for the rest of your life. The law does not allow you even if you are ten years of age  to go and buy petrol and burn public property. If you want, go and burn your father's property," Magoha told the media.
