A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) imposter was apprehended by police officers in Kisii County after he attempted to take a female cop into custody.

The 27-year-old man, wearing a military camouflage jacket drove into Suneka Police Station and parked his Toyota Delta.

He then walked courageously into the report office and dragged out a female constable for allegedly wearing an inappropriate police uniform.

Chaos ensued as the two confronted each other. Alarmed by the incident, the officer's colleague rushed to intervene and deescalate the situation. However, the fake KDF soldier refused to hear them out.

"The intruder violently pulled the lady officer from her duty post which prompted the immediate intervention by her colleague and the duty officer," a statement by the National Police Service read.

Deputy OSC, Cephas Ombija, also urged the suspect to produce his identification documents, but to no avail. Ombija thus concluded that the suspect was pretending to be a military officer.

This prompted the officer to call for help from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who swiftly responded and apprehended the imposter.

DCI sleuths took him into custody and commenced investigations to establish any connection to acts of criminality in the area with the suspect.

Police further announced that the suspect will be arraigned for charges of impersonation and creating a disturbance. Police did not disclose whether he was armed or not.

"This case is not an isolated one and in the past, we have handled incidences where criminals have unlawfully used the identity of our security gear to advance criminal activities.

"While we caution the public against imposters who are out to advance acts of fraud and other forms of criminality, we urge the public to seek for services from designated security installations and, to report to authorities any suspected imposter,' the statement continued.

Earlier this year, three men were arrested outside Kahawa Barracks in Nairobi for impersonating KDF officers and conning a man of Ksh350,000. The trio was accused of conning a citizen identified as Mbabu John Ksh350,000 after promising to help enrol his son into the military.
