Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa sent social media into a frenzy on Friday, January 7, after posting photos of his enormous house.

The first-time legislator shared the photos while revealing that he had hosted Deputy President William Ruto for lunch. Ruto had concluded his tour of the Western Kenya region where he championed his bottom-up economic model.

"Glad to have hosted chief hustler Williams Ruto for late lunch at my Nasianda home, Kimilili," he wrote.

What caught many by surprise, however, was the size of Barasa's palatial house.

Most of them could not help but wonder why Barasa identifies as a hustler yet he lives in a house befitting a king. Others claimed that his main goal was to show off the house.

"Is this a house or a warehouse?" one Martin Wangwe wrote.

"So your house is this big but you can't even host OKA principals?" Edwin Shamir commented.

"Ruto inspecting one of the projects that his money has financed," Shynne Kibunga alleged.

"I'm not seeing the real hustlers in this home, they can't go past the gate," Collins Salasya stated.

Barasa, who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket, has been one of Ruto's leading campaigners in the Western Kenya region.

However, in a surprising move, in March 2021, the lawmaker announced that he was taking a four-month leave sabbatical leave from high octane politics.

He revealed that during his political break, he would take that time to identify the interest of the people of the Kimilili constituency, Bungoma and that of Mulembe nation.

"By engaging with other leaders, we will be able to identify their interests. Where does the community want to stand in 2022 General Elections?” Barasa explained.

At the time, many thought that he had fallen out with Ruto. However, he insisted that he had not left the DP's camp.
