The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Elections Board (NEB) on Wednesday, February 16, announced the date of its national party preliminaries.
In a press statement released by NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura, UDA announced that it would hold its nominations between April 9 and April 16.
Mwaura explained that the party settled on the dates after holding several meetings and in line with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) election calendar.
"Pursuant to the IEBC calendar, the board wishes to announce to all aspirants that party nominations will be held from April 9 to April 16, 2022," read the statement in part.
He added that the nominations would be held across counties, adding that its presidential candidate, Deputy President William Ruto, has assured that the process will be transparent.
"The DP has personally given his undertaking that the nominations would be free and fair. The party has no preferred aspirant and it has not set aside any direct ticket. All aspirants will face Wanjiku's (the people's) verdict on the nominations day," stated Mwaura.
UDA reminded all aspirants who have not completed payment of the nominations fees to do so before the February 28 timeline, after which the list will be compiled.
The party set the nomination fees for male candidates eyeing Member of County Assembly (MCA), Ksh50,000, Member of Parliament (MP), Ksh250,000, senator, Ksh250,000, governor, Ksh500,000, and Ksh1 million for the Presidency.
Candidates contesting for the Aspiring Women representatives in the National Assembly will pay Ksh250,000. Notably, the party subsidized the fees for youth and women vying in all other positions by half while People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) will not pay nomination fees.
"The board has waived nomination fees for all persons living with disabilities vying for positions within the party and approved a 50 per cent waiver for women and youth aspirants," Mwaura stated in January.
The board revealed plans to meet aspirants in their counties, starting with those in Narok, Kericho, Bomet and Nan counties on February 17 and 18. The schedule for other counties will be shared on the UDA website.
